Who Is the "Best Savannah Cat Breeder"? The Story Behind the Slogan
October 28, 2026 · 5 min read

A while back, we put a slogan at the top of our website: Best Savannah Cat Breeder. It was our little flex — our way of saying we stand behind every kitten we raise. Since then, something funny has happened. We keep seeing that same phrase everywhere, on cattery after cattery, breeder after breeder.
Honestly? We take it as a compliment. But it also made us think about what "best" even means in this breed — and it is probably not what the slogan makes it look like.
The slogan we started
When we wrote "Best Savannah Cat Breeder" on our site, we meant it as a promise, not a ranking. It stood for health tested pedigree parents, kittens raised underfoot in our home, honest contracts, and lifetime support after go-home. Those things are still the promise. The words just traveled faster than we expected.
Now everyone is the best Savannah cat breeder
Scroll any breeder directory today and you will find the phrase on dozens of catteries, often word for word. It is a little funny to watch your own slogan get borrowed, but it is also nice — it tells you other catteries are reaching for the same standard, even if they are describing a very different program.
We would rather you read the phrase as an invitation to ask questions than as a guarantee. Because the truth is simpler than any slogan.
There is no single best — and that is good news
There is no trophy for best Savannah cat breeder. There is no scorecard. Every breeder who genuinely puts their cats first can be the best in their own way, for the family that fits their program.
So what does "best" mean for you, the buyer? It means the breeder whose cats fit your home, whose answers you trust, and whose kittens are raised the way you would want your own raised. That is the whole formula. When the fit is right, your breeder is the best Savannah cat breeder — for you.
TICA registered does not mean ethical
Here is the part buyers learn too late: TICA is a pedigree registry, not an inspection agency. Anyone can register a cattery name and pay the fee online. No one from the registry visits the home, checks the environment, verifies a single vet record, or watches how the cats live.
A TICA registration tells you a kitten has documented lineage. It does not tell you the breeder is honest about vet records, truthful about health testing, or keeping cats in a proper environment. Those things you have to verify yourself.
What actually makes a breeder great
- Where the kittens are raised — in the home, underfoot, around everyday family life, not tucked away somewhere you will never see.
- Temperament work in the first twelve weeks — daily handling, other pets, real household sounds.
- Transparency you can verify — live video with the actual kitten, real reviews, a real phone number, a real location.
- Health testing you can confirm — parents tested for PRA and PK-def, vet records shared, not just claimed.
- An honest contract — a signed Kitten Agreement before any money changes hands, with health guarantees and expectations spelled out.
- A breeder who stays in your life after go-home with advice and support.
To every cattery using the slogan
We see you, and honestly — welcome to the club. If you are putting your cats' welfare first, there is room for every one of us, even those who borrowed a slogan along the way. We will keep earning the phrase the only way it can be earned: one well-raised kitten at a time.
