The Immaculate House Red Flag: Clues That Kittens Aren't Actually Raised Underfoot

Search any Savannah cat breeder website today and you will see the same phrase on almost every page: "Our kittens are lovingly raised underfoot."

At LVHYBRIDS, raised underfoot started as a promise to our cats, not a buzzword to paste over an outbuilding. Now it has become one of the most copied marketing lines in the Savannah world. Buyers don't want kittens raised in cages, shed pens, or isolated rooms. They want a confident, affectionate companion who was loved inside a real home from day one, so high-volume operations adapted their marketing to match.

But if you know what to look for, the house itself tells the real story. Whether you visit in person or take a live video tour, here are the two biggest clues that kittens never lived a single day underfoot.

1. The clue of the "pristine living room"

Anyone who has lived with a litter of 8 to 12 week old Savannah kittens knows the truth: healthy Savannah kittens are little balls of chaos. They chase shadows across the rug, knock toys everywhere, track litter out of the box, spill crunchies beside the bowl, and leave wand-toy feathers under every couch cushion.

If a breeder claims four Savannah kittens have been running loose underfoot for 10 weeks, but the living room is immaculate (no stray wand toys, no feather fragments on the rug, no litter tracking, no food crumbs near a bowl), those kittens don't live in that living room. They were likely carried in from an outbuilding or a locked room five minutes before you arrived.

A living room that looks like a museum is the clearest sign that kittens don't live there.

2. The missing infrastructure: where are the cat walls?

Savannah cats are vertical climbers with incredible athletic energy. In an authentic underfoot cattery, the home is adapted to the cats:

  • Cat wall perches and climbing shelves anchored into studs.
  • Scratching bridges and vertical sisal poles.
  • An exercise cat wheel right in the open living space.

If a breeder's home has bare drywall, zero climbing furniture, and untouchable designer decor, their cats aren't free-roaming. You can't live with multiple Savannahs and growing litters without giving your living space over to them. If the walls are empty and the floors are bare, the cats are living somewhere else.

What real underfoot looks like

At LVHYBRIDS there is no outbuilding, no cages, and no locked-away back rooms. Our kittens are born in our living space, take their first wobbly steps across our floors, and grow up with our small blind dog and our rescue diabetic senior cat. They hear the vacuum, the blender, the TV, and family footsteps every single day.

That is why our families tell us their kittens walk out of the carrier with their tails up instead of hiding under the bed for weeks. Want to see it for yourself? Call or text 702.918.6979, or start with the adoption application.
