Yes — Savannah cats usually get along very well with dogs and other cats, especially later generations like F4 and F5 SBT Savannahs. They are outgoing, confident, and love having a playmate in the house.
Every cat is an individual, so personality matters most. A good introduction makes all the difference.
Savannah cats and dogs
Savannahs are often called "dog-like" cats. Many play fetch, follow you from room to room, greet you at the door, and even walk on a leash. That high energy matches a friendly, cat-safe dog surprisingly well.
Many Savannahs end up chasing, wrestling, and napping with the family dog. Dogs that are calm around cats and have no history of chasing them are the best match.
Savannah cats and other cats
Savannahs are social and usually welcome another cat, especially one with a playful personality. A laid-back older cat may need a little more time to adjust to a Savannah's energy.
How to introduce your new Savannah kitten
- Start with a separate room for a few days so your kitten can settle in.
- Swap blankets or toys so each pet learns the other's scent.
- Let them see each other through a baby gate or cracked door before face-to-face meetings.
- Keep the first meetings short, calm, and supervised, with treats and play.
- Give every pet their own food, water, and litter space.
What about birds, fish, and small pets?
Here we have to be honest: Savannahs are curious hunters. Birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, and fish need secure enclosures or a room the cat can't get into. Never leave them unsupervised together.
Why how they are raised matters
Our kittens are raised in our home from day one, with constant human touch in a free-roam home. That early handling helps them grow into confident, friendly companions who adapt well to new people and pets.

F4 vs F5 Savannah Cat: Which Generation Should You Actually Buy?
F4 or F5? Side by side, an F4 and F5 can be the same size — an F4 can be bigger, or an F5 can be bigger — and there is no way to tell a Savannah cat's generation without a pedigree. It always boils down to personality. Here is how we help families choose between the two generations we breed.
